I have been seeing/drooling over old glass storage jars-my fascination with old glass kitchenware continues to live and breathe! I have wanted for some time to get rid of my old canister set and replace it with old kitchen storage jars, but have been worried that the paint on the lids might contain lead...so I've passed many of them up. Even this awesome set at Collette's.
I found a new set, that looks like the old stuff at, of all places, Target!! The big jars were five something each and the littles were four something. I found the same jars for twice the price at Hobby Lobby-so I think I got a smokin hot deal! I plan to paint the lids and scuff them up a bit-to make them look older, and add these decals from Knightsbridge.
So, if you're like me and like the looks, but don't want to be hooked with the high price or potentially poison your family with the old ones-go get yours at Target!
I'll show you pics when I get them done-I can't wait!!!
What a wonderful idea! I have some of those stickers myself and have seen some..great use. I have some red containers, may have to do that to them!

I am looking for something exactly like this. I currently use gallon pickle jars but they are hard to come by for all my bulk dry goods. We don't get Target in Canada until the summer but will be doing a quick trip to the States in a month or two so will have to go take a look! I love how they look vintage but have had the same exact concerns. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love old kitchen ware too! Yikkes, I never thought about the lead! Yes, I think you got a great deal!

I never thought of lead paint before!!!! I have a few old jars that were my Grandmother's, so I should probably avoid putting food in them. Love the decals you are going to put on them.
