Needing a Good Junk Fix!!!

Here I am at the end of another week, and no good junking adventures in sight!! The number of garage sales in the local paper have been picking up, we are up to 16 this week!! Unfortunately, they are not selling my kind of junk stuff! There are also 38 estate sales within 50 miles of my house, but none of them are enticing enough to spend the gas money on.

My friend Deb, who moved to Atlanta a couple of years ago is in town for the weekend, so we are going to lunch tomorrow. I was hoping for a couple of estate sales to drag her to, but I'm coming up empty! Maybe we can visit a couple of antique shops instead!

After lunch, I'm heading to another friend's house to help her prepare food for a surprise party for her son's fiance's birthday. I think I've recovered sufficiently from the big fundraiser dinner last weekend that I can make some more food! The fundraiser dinner went well. We were down about 50 people from last year and brought in about $500 less than last year, but it was still a big success!

I had to day off from work because I worked all day Sunday for the fundraiser dinner for our church's high school youth group's summer mission trip. The BEST part of my day? Taking little Lucy in to see my little 3 year old cousin Zoe at preschool! She was soo excited!!! She is more than just a little dog crazy and she totally fell in love with my little fluff ball! I'm still smiling!!

Sunday is dealer day at the antique mall, so I'll be spending a good chunk of time Saturday getting stuff ready to go to the booth, and Sunday after church I'll rearrange, straighten and clean stuff up. I've been having a record month this month. I'm surprised because everyone I talk to says March is notoriously a slow month. My friend Auntie told me that most of the dealers in our mall aren't doing well at all this month. That really surprised me! I just figured everyone must be having great sales too. How are you doing this month?? I hope it's a good month for you!!

There really isn't any rhyme or reason to the things that have been selling either...Things that I had expected to sell  immediately are still there, and the stuff I ask myself what in the world possessed me to buy it, is flying off the shelves!! One thing that has surprised me is a set of Marcrest Swiss Alpine dinnerware. I've had it in the booth for almost 6 months and I've lowered it and lowered it and now it is at $32 for a set of 38 pieces...it's still there! I was hoping it would go so I wouldn't have to bring it home, but it looks like it is coming home on Sunday.

I can't wait to catch up on what you've been doing and finding this week! Hope you have a GREAT weekend!!!

How Was Your Friday??

What did you do today? Did you get to any sales? Did you just stay home? Did you have to work? I was off work (for the most part), and I slept in!!! I went to one sale that was advertised on Craigslist, but didn't have any signs out and nothing was priced, and you know how I feel about no prices-right?!? Didn't buy a thing, but on my way home, I followed a rabbit trail of some signs and came across a couple little garage sales and a newer Salvation Army store (that in the past has been full of very high priced junk).

This is what I got today...

I took the little peanut to the vet for the first time today. I thought she weighed about 4 pounds but she actually weighed in at 2.8 pounds!! She got a glowing report, and by the time we left, she had the vet, the office manager and the front desk help wrapped around her tiny little paw! She seems to have that effect on everyone who meets her!

No sales for me tomorrow-big food prep day with the high school students from our church youth group. For their fundraiser dinner on Sunday for their mission trip in June. I had to shop for the produce today-that was the little bit of work I had to do-not bad at all!  I did find a great sale for Kevin in the town I grew up in-it's full of woodworking tools and equipment!

Here's a couple of shots of Adam's new car-it just rolled over 100 miles, and just got the first car wash of its young life!

Here are a couple shots of spring popping up all over our yard! It's been in the 80's for almost a week-I'm dreading June, July and August's temperatures if it is this warm already!!!

Hope you have an amazing weekend!!!

Where Has The Week Gone???

This past week, I've been so busy that I haven't had time to do much of anything! What have I been doing?? Mostly I've been...
A referee between these two...

The young, silly puppy who goes out of her way to antagonize the old, crabby one! She's just trying to play, but Maddie has been the house princess for 12 years and has never had to share her toys or her mom...she's trying to be gentle and kind, but sometimes she just wants to sleep and not have a little squirt crawling all over her!!

I've also been part...
...chef/caterer -planning and shopping for a fundraiser dinner for our high school mission team. The dinner is this Sunday, and I'm cooking for 500-with only teenagers as my help-YIKES! Thank goodness for Walmart fried chicken!!! Since they are going to Sautee, Georgia, we are doing a "southern" menu (or our interpretation of a southern menu). Fried chicken, southern green beans (with bacon and onion), tossed salad, corn bread, mac and cheese, and peach cobbler-with sweet tea, iced tea and lemonade. I'll be buying the produce tomorrow, prepping everything Saturday and cooking and serving on Sunday.

I've also been part...
...volleyball addict! I've played three nights this week (usually 4 nights a week from February-mid May), not playing Saturday night after cooking all day-I'm sure my team will appreciate me for getting a sub rather than trying to play tired!

I've also been part...
...invalid from pain from plantar faciiatis, a cracked orthodic -unknown to me until my hips and knees started hurting unbearably! Now that I have new shoes and my back up orthodics in my shoes, the pain has gone down the scale to about a 2 from about a 15!!

I've also been part...
...chauffer and...
...encourager to Adam as he shopped for and leased his first new car!!! It was a BIG milestone for him, I just hope he still likes his new little Smart Car in a few weeks when the newness wears off! Can you imagine a six-foot, four inch 230 pound guy driving a Smart Car?? It's actually pretty roomy inside and quite comfortable. I tried to get him a shoe horn as a gag-just in case he needed it to get in or out of the car, but no one sells them around here anymore-other than the 3' ones for senior citizens!!

I've also been part...
...maid-you know the stuff you do everyday too around your house.

All that, on top of work and everyday life-it's been a busy week!!! I did try to go to a couple sales today in my town, but they were frogs. I stopped at a new consignment shop, but it was a frog too. At least it was a gorgeous 82 degree day today with lots of blue skies and sunshine (until a couple of hours ago when the sky let loose, but it'stopped now, and all is quiet as the ground soaks up all the puddles).

I'm hoping to go to a sale or two tomorrow, but they are about 30 miles away...is it worth it with the way gas prices are? Should I just stay home and read a book? Or should I go? What would you do??

Hope you've had a great week! I'm off to check out your blog to see what you've found and what you've been up to!! Have a great weekend!!!

So I Went to This Sale on Thursday...

I had to go to a training class/meeting for work on Thursday and when it was over, I was done with work for the day and decided to check out one sale that was pretty close to home. I stopped at home and picked Kevin because he wanted to ride along.

When we got to the sale, a big German shepherd type dog came running out to the car-not barking, but running right for me. I don't know about you, but I always get a little nervous when a big dog runs right at me, until I can be sure they aren't going to try to rip my legs off! He seemed fine, just checking us out. So we wandered up to the garage to check out what they had.

As I was walking around the garage a couple little puppies started weaving in and out of my feet. They were so adorable that I forgot about the over-priced antiques set up on tables in the garage and started playing with the puppies.

The man running the sale said, "She's for sale too." At first I thought he was joking, so I asked if he was serious. He was, but Kevin wasn't biting, so we went home. For the rest of the night, I couldn't get the cutest puppy I've ever seen off my mind!

Well...first thing yesterday morning, Adam and I went back and got her!!! She is 9.5 weeks old, and is a shi tzu Poodle mix-a shihpoo. She will only be about 10-12 pounds when fully grown, and most importantly-she won't shed!!!

We can't decide on a name! I like Zoey, but I'm afraid my cousin will be furious, because that is what she named her daughter! Adam likes Beemo, from one of the characters from Adventure time, Eric Likes Lucy, and Kevin doesn't care. Other names are Bailey, and Sophie...Would you be offended if your cousin named their dog the same as your daughter?

Here she is, what do you think we should call her???

I've really been finding some fantastic things at sales lately!!! I am so excited to see what I'm going to find at the next sale that I can hardly stand to wait for one to come up!!!

Would You Buy It??

I'm linking up to Junker Newbie for Would You Buy it Wednesday (just a few days late!). I found this today at an estate sale.

Mint condition, except for some dirt spots!!

How much would you pay for it if you would buy it???

How does $3 sound?? Too good to be true-but that's what I paid!!! Stamped Holt Howard 1958 on the bottom. I am still smiling ear to ear and every once in a while I pinch myself!!!

Somebody Pinch Me!!

Sales have been so few and far between around here lately, and good sales are almost extinct! I talked myself out of a couple of sales on Thursday (I got out of work at 11am), they were just too far to drive with the way gas prices are, and there really wasn't any WOW factor in the pictures posted online.

Friday, I mapped out 7 sales all within about 13 miles of each other, but getting to them, was the problem-they were a half an hour away! Since there were so many in a cluster, I decided to take a chance and see what treasures I might find.

The first sale was a bust. I never even went in! I got there a little before it opened, and when we were all lined up outside the door and it was 10:03 and they hadn't opened the door yet, some of the people in line started banging on the door. This angered the people running the sale, and when they opened, they said because the shoppers were banging on the door, they were going to only let in 10 people at a time.

That only punished the rest of us, because the door bangers all got in and we had to wait! I waited about 20 minutes and they only let in one couple besides the initial 10. So I left and went to the next one-which was also a big warty toad/frog of a sale. Prices too high, junk too new!

The next sale was the best one of the day and the treasures were skimpy to say the least! The last sale was the furthest out, and I was going to skip it, but I kept picturing the vintage aqua Pyrex refrigerator dishes and kept thinking to myself that I'd never know if I would have had a chance to get them if I didn't try.

As I pulled on to the street where the last sale was, there was total gridlock! It was a country sub with each house having about an acre of land, no curbs-the yards just came out to the road and cars were parked on each side of the road. It was gridlock because one lady decided to not pull her big old Cadillac off on the grass, but leave the rear end hanging out so a school bus couldn't pass.

I guess the bus sat there so long waiting for the lady to come move her car, that the police were called. He arrived just as I did. He walked up to the house and the 30 or so people still waiting outside and found the lady and told her to move her car and told everyone that no one could park on that side of the road anymore.

After I parked and walked a couple blocks to get back, a second police officer arrived and just slowly patroled through the street-it kind of reminded me of jaws. His car was an unmarked silver/gray color and he just seemed like he was looking for prey-ha ha!

He pulled off and sat down the street by where I parked-so that made me really nervous!! I so did NOT want another parking ticket for an estate sale!!! The first officer came back and went into the house, but before he did, he told the people in line to make sure anyone who pulled up knew they could only park on the west side of the street.

While he was in there, Miss Big ole Cadillac had circled the block and had pulled back into the same spot as before with her rear end hanging out just as far if not farther!! Everyone started laughing at her nerve-especially with 2 police officers in the area-one of whom had told her to move her car!! She got out and started walking up just as officer #1 came out of the house!! Everyone roared with laughter and they shouted "Give her a ticket!" He didn't. He gave her grace, and told her to move the car (again), and to not try to park there again or she would get a ticket.

During the short time I was there, I met a man who was leaving who offered me his number...147!! I asked what number they were on and was told 73. One couple who had #80 had been there since 10am and it was 12:18 and they still weren't in! I started marching for my car-no way was I waiting.

As I got to my car, a woman had parked in front of me and I offered her my number. She said she was a friend of the lady running the sale and she was just there to say hi and see how it was going. When I told her how long the wait was, she was totally shocked. She said she was there when they were setting up the sale and there was really nothing in the house worth that long of a wait.

I still keep thinking about the aqua Pyrex, but I'm sure that was probably snapped up in the first 15 minutes, so I feel like I didn't miss anything (kinda, sorta).

Today I found 5 sales all within 4 miles of each other that were closer to home, so I hopped in the car and took off! The first sale was the BEST! I got there 3 minutes after they opened. It was a family run sale. The prices were AMAZING! I still think somebody should pinch me because this is what I found...

Holt Howard Pixieware Olive jar!!! I've never, ever found Holt Howard at any estate sale or garage sale in over 20 years of treasure hunting. I've been seriously looking for about 4-5 years since one of my coworkers absolutely LOVES Pixieware. I found it on my second pass through the dining room, and just about squealed out loud!! I forced myself to be very nonchalant about it, as I picked it up and took it to the box I had started in the living room.

I missed out on a Santa and sleigh with reindeer-blow mold set-6 large pieces for $10 in the basement while I was scoring the little pixie jar, but I was able to get over quickly enough. When I got home I looked it up on Ebay and was very pleasantly surprised at how much they were selling for!! I think I am going to put it in my "Vintage Kitchenware Foster Care System" for a while, and let it join the rest of the things I've found that I'm not quite ready to sell yet.

I had good luck at all of the sales today but one. My car was full to the ceiling, but I had to stop anyway-it was 1/2 off day!! The house was the strangest house I've ever been in. It looked very normal from the outside, but once you stepped in, you were in for a shock! The carpet going up the stairs was black. The carpet in the front living room and dining room was white shag-almost like an animal fur.

Here are a couple of shots from the estate sale listing that was online at Estatesales.net.

The master bedroom carpet was really, really bright grass or kelly green. The majority of the house was wallpapered with really heavy, ornate black and white wallpaper, except one room that had pastel blotches all over the wallpaper-that matched the curtains and the bedspread! They even wallpapered the ceiling in all of the rooms!!! Upstairs had black shag carpet that was so thick it was like fur. Even at half off, their prices were still more than double any other estate sale company that I've visited in the whole state!!

Here are the other things I picked up today...

This is what it looks like all put together.

Santa Sack to "Puddin" from Santa.

Cardboard bowls and paper coasters to match.

I've never seen this before-black Corning Ware. I looked them up on Ebay and they seem to sell for about 10x what I paid for them or more!!

Doesn't this platter seem to glow?!? It was so filthy when I bought it-it was gross!

 Vintage egg nog set

My first pair of watermelon hot pads! Thanks Shara for introducing me to them!!! I LOVE them!!

I think this might be Blenko...this is staying with me!

Tea hottles and a very dainty thin candy dish.

I think this might be Anchor Hocking Manhattan.

I can picture this either really pale yellow or white and scuffed up a bit...

This is kinda nasty, but it was only $2, so I took a chance. Needs some serious bleach!!

How did you do this weekend?? Find any good sales?? I'm coming to visit your blog next to catch up on what you've been doing and finding!!

Happy Weekend!!
