What Do You Collect?

Maybe I should ask, What don't you collect? I seem to have the type of personality that more is better. I see that in almost all areas of my life. I play volleyball not one night a week, but four! I collect vintage Fiesta, and vintage Pyrex. I collect vintage tablecloths, quilts, aprons and hankies. I've also been collecting vintage kitchenware and vintage ornaments.

I started a swanky swig collection and a vintage yard stick collection. I've also started picking up vintage soap flake pitchers and vintage dish towels. I'm hopeless! The more vintage things I find, the more I like love, and the more I collect! Am I alone in this? Or do you find yourself in the same boat?

I've been trying to complete my vintage Fiesta mixing bowl sets for a few years now, but haven't had any luck with #6's and #7's being in my super cheap price range. I've been trying to finish up my vintage Pyrex collection for the past few years too, and I'm almost there! That is, until I decided I needed the striped Pyrex bowls now too!

I have 2 ironstone chamber pots, and that's all I plan to get...but what if one shows up at a sale that I can't walk away from? Sigh, it will come home with me-just like everything else!

I know I will never collect old tools...but Kevin does that, so they are all around in his barn. I'm sitting here trying to think of other things I will never collect...hmmmm...it's not as easy as I thought!

I don't think I would ever collect milk glass. I'm more of a bright colors girl than plain white. I know some people like plain white-I have a friend at work who has all white Fiesta for her dishes and she loves them! I have all different colors and I love mine!

I picked up a few beanie babies back in their heyday, but I think that was just because my kids were little, and they liked them, and one of my co-workers at the time was crazy about them and I think it rubbed off on me a little bit. I've been slowly giving them away to little kids. I didn't get very many, maybe 10-15.

I have a small stamp collection that I started when I was in middle school-nothing fancy, just a fun cheap thing to collect. I used to collect teddy bears-way back in high school, but haven't bought one since I was 18. That collection has been disbanded and given away too.

I used to collect clear depression glass, then my taste changed to purple or amethyst depression glass, and from that my collecting has just blown off the doors!

Maybe I have an addiction to collecting...LOL!

I'd LOVE to hear about what you collect! Leave a comment, or send me an email with pictures! Some of my blog friends have sent me wonderful emails with great pictures of their collections over the years, I've loved looking at every one of them!

Here are some shots of my hoard collections...

Don't look too closely....I didn't get rid of all of the dust bunnies last week...some of them are visiting for a little longer-LOL!

    1. I actually joined a Facebook group called "I need a 12 step program for my Fiestaware addiction"! You should post some pictures of your collections on your blog-I'd LOVE to see them!!!

  2. Wow - your collections are beautiful. Love the Fiesta and Pyrex - so colourful. I collect some Pyrex and pink depression glass, though your Fiesta looks so good I just may have to think about that one. Good thing there isn't a lot of those around here!

    1. Hi Carly! Thanks for stopping by! I think I am just as addicted to Pyrex as I am to Fiesta! It's always fun to meet another person who "gets it" about Pyrex! So many people that I know think I am nuts! :)

  5. I love ALL your stuff above!I collect only VINTAGE S&P shakers, aluminum kitchen items, tablecloths, hankies, pottery planters, white restaurant china, restaurant creamers & butter pats, mixing bowls, white buttons, quilts, padlocks, shiny bright Christmas ornaments collected in old big jars, wooden cigar boxes, Gurley candles, picnic baskets, chenille bedspreads, etc etc! Now I only buy what is a huge bargain at thrift stores & estate sales; usually tend to go when it is 1/2 priced. Love your blog. Mary $^)

    1. Hi Mary! I have a few aluminum kitchen items and old ornaments too...I just didn't get to that part of the house with the camera! ;) I think having the booth and having an excuse to go to all the sales has helped my collections take off! You have me intrigued with butter pats...I'll have to keep my eyes open for them! Thanks for stopping by!

  6. My Mom always said I collect collections. I have to many to list, but we share a lot of the same ones - tablecloths, yardsticks, vintage holiday stuff, picnic baskets, vintage pottery, vintage baby quilts and lots more. But you already know that! I'm trying to focus on the collections that I really LOVE and clear out the rest. I just priced my entire vintage hankie collection to take to the booth. I thought that was a pretty big step!

    1. That WAS a big step Shara! I don't know of a collection that I have(right now)that I'd be willing to get rid of...I did sell most of my clear depression glass, but all the junk I have now, I don't want to part with!! Even when I think about having to pack it all up to move in a couple of months-I'm not motivated to get rid of it! We'll see what happens when the time comes! ;)

  7. I could look at those photos ALL DAY LONG!!! You and I definitely have the same tastes when it comes to collecting. At some point, I am going to start doing a weekly blog posting on my collections since I seem to have so many. First and foremost, Pyrex. Then linens, Swanky Swigs, vintage drinking glasses, vintage holiday decor, picnic baskets, picnic tins, bread boxes, S & P shakers, pottery, the list goes on and on. I don't think that there is a problem at all with loving things from the past so much that we have to have it all! They just don't make things as lovely as they used too.

    1. Erica, You got it right when you said they just don't make things as lovely as they used to! I keep wishing and hoping someone would catch on and make some new stuff as fun and exciting as the old stuff! I even wrote to Pyrex telling them just that-but they never answered-their loss if they don't at least try it! Can you imagine how much more fun grocery shopping would be if we could buy our sour cream in swanky swigs again? Or honey whip in glass jars in bright colors?? I'd need a second house just to hold all of the groceries!!! ;)

  8. Oh my gosh, where do I begin with the collections (hoards).....the only thing I have one of is a husband and I have found that is more than any one woman really needs. I collect anything pyrex, vintage photos, vintage cameras, vintage baby christening gowns, mustache cups, shaving mugs, razors, invalid feeders, chopper hoppers, vintage wedding dresses and cake toppers, carnival glass, punch bowls, avon ruby red cape cod dishes, avon bottles..........sometimes I really do think this is a sickness! Currier and Ives dishes, vintage finger lamps, oil lamps, shakers, Hoosier cabinets.....seriously if it is old I love it.....it usually starts out that I find one thing I like or someone gives me something vintage and next thing you know it turns into a collection. I wish mine were as neatly displayed as yours....but I have run out of room. I will try to take some pictures of all of them and put them on my blog. It is interesting to see all the goodies people do have out there.

  10. I guess I'm different than most...I don't collect anything. Everything I pick up is for sale. I might have it for a while and enjoy it while I have it, but eventually it leaves me. However, I seem to be drawn to anything mid century (50's/60's). Maybe that's because those are the things I remember most from my childhood. By the way, all of your collections are beautiful!

    1. I'm sure my husband wishes I could be more like you Jackie! He doesn't get "collecting" at all, and thinks my junk takes up too much room! :)

  12. Amazing vintage treasures!!! Due to space limitations I've been selling off my treasures except for Buffalo China and Niagara Textile Company, Lockport NY tea towels. Left WNY after college but now enjoy several summer months at our lakeside family cottage. Always on the hunt for a piece from every pattern BFLO China produced and for the gorgeous towels that were no more after a mill fire in the early '50's. Thanks for for a peek of your collections!
