FREE Junk!

We got back from our trip to Florida last night around 6:30-I'm still working on sorting through all the pictures and putting my thoughts together to share about our trip---so stayed tuned for that!

This morning we headed over to Kevin's sister's mother-in-law's house to help them clean it out. His brother-in-law's mom recently moved into an assisted living facility and they needed to clear out her house to sell. We were only there about 3 1/2 hours, but we really kicked it out!! Everything was boxed or bagged up to be donated when we left, so all they had to do was call Purple Heart and take the stuff from the shed to their house.

They were very generous with giving me LOTS of free junk!! They had already spent some time pulling out the things they wanted so they said I could have whatever I wanted! I got two boxes of glassware, a chippy enamel to table and two chairs, an old yard stick, an old movie projector, a ceramic Christmas tree and a couple of hankies.

I'm sure it was a tough day for them emotionally. It was easy for me, because I wasn't emotionally attached to the person who owned the stuff. I was trying to keep it light and trying to make everyone laugh, so we didn't think about what we were doing.

I'm not sure how this box got into the car--Kevin must have picked it up. I don't think I ever even saw it. After spending a day in a smoker's house with lots of dust and dog hair, my allergies are acting up big time tonight! My eyes are all red and swollen and itchy-hopefully it will clear up by church tomorrow!!

Junk Sales...Oh, How I LOVE You, Let Me Count the Ways!

If you've read my blog for any length of time, you know that I am addicted to the thrill of the hunt and have been for many years. Starting with garage sales with my parents when I was a kid, to garage sales for toys and things for the boys when they were little, to  garage sales, estate sales, flea markets, antique shops, Ebay, Etsy, rummage sales-you name it-for the vintage goodies I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

Here are some reasons why I love going to sales:

1. You never know what treasure you will find!

2. You never know if the very next sale will have "IT", the one item you've been dying to find.

3. You can buy stuff usually at much lower prices at sales VS antique shops and stores.

4. It's usually easy to find sales-all throughout the year.

5. You meet some very interesting people.

6. It's cheap entertainment.

7. You can make offers, and a lot of times they're accepted-can't do that in a store!

8. One man's junk, is truly another man's treasure!

9. You find out what luck means and being at the right place at the right time means.

10. You can always hold your own sale to sell off what you can't use, or don't really want.

11. That feeling of excitement when you make a BIG score!

12. You learn the etiquette of shopping on driveways.

13. You find all kinds of things you never even knew existed!

14. You get to see what other people have collected.

15.You really never know what treasures you will find!!!

Weekend Finds...Would You Buy It? #2

Hi Everyone!
How's your week going? Mine has flown by!! I can't believe it is the end of the week (for me) already! I've had a busy week with something going on every single night since last Saturday, and tonight is Bible study night,as well as the in-laws are coming in to town so they can fly to their home in Florida tomorrow.

On top of all of that, I've been trying to get ready for the long drive-driving the in-laws van so they can fly and trying to get ahead of the game at work so I don't have to come back to a mountain of work. So far, everything is going smoothly-but I feel like my head is going to explode with all of the 'have to do" stuff.

I didn't get to any sales today-too busy cleaning the house, packing and finishing up the laundry, but I did find  one of my old treasures to share. So obviously, you know I DID buy it...would you?

A very old, very rusty, crusty camelback trunk-with an original label. I absolutely LOVE camelback trunks! What do you think about them? Do you like them? Do you have any?

Weekend Finds--Would You Buy It Linky Party #1

I only went to two estate sales this week. One was more of a moving sale than an estate sale, and everything was newer, and nothing like the vintage goodies that I usually hunt for. The second one was just a couple miles away, but and it was a 35 minute wait before it opened.

It was in a subdivision-on a cul-de sac. It was interesting sitting in my car (catching up on the phone with my mom) watching people arriving to the sale. People were actually parking across driveways and blocking the homeowners from getting out. One couple drove up on their grass to get out, and another guy came out yelling and screaming until someone  got out of line to move their car.

I was number 17. They ran out of numbers at 48. I was surprised to see so many people. The pictures online didn't look overly interesting-I was going because it was a sale in my hometown and it was close.

I found three large old medical books for $1 each, and thought Adam might enjoy flipping through them since he is in the midst of nursing school. I also found a pretty awesome old metal cabinet. What do you think of it? Would you buy it?

It's Beginning to Look a LOT Like Christmas!

After work today, I got busy and started cleaning some Christmas goodies for the booth...I wish I had room to keep these guys!! Don' you just LOVE their faces!?!?

The winds are howling here tonight! I can't imagine how bad the weather is on the east coast! Be safe friends!!

All Gone!!!

Leaving comments will be a LOT easier on this blog! I got a reminder today about what a PAIN those word verification code things are-thanks Amy!! I get so frustrated when I go to leave a comment on someone's blog and have to keep entering codes because for some reason, I entered it wrong. I had forgotten that I had  that on my blog too-but not any more! It's GONE!!!

It hasn't stopped the spam, so I'm not worried about more spam. Some of the spam comments are really pretty funny-maybe someday I'll make a post with all of my spam comments-you'd get a chuckle out of most of them!

You Can Learn a Lot From a Puppy!

We've had our little Lucy 7 months now, and I don't know how we ever got along without her! She has brought so much laughter, joy, and love to our house-it's unbelievable! Everyone, even Maddie our aging lab has benefited from this little bundle of fur. I've been watching her because she is so funny, you never know what she's going to do next, and I've learned a lot!

When she gets up in the morning, she takes a big, long stretch and jumps right into her day. She hops up and greets everyone in her family with a hello, and a big kiss. How many times have we been too tired, crabby or in a hurry in the morning to let our loved ones know we love them and we're happy to see them? Do we greet the people we meet during the day (like co-workers, store clerks, etc.) with kindness and a happy smile? Or do we buzz on by, in a hurry to get to our next task?

Everything she does, she does at 110%. Whether it's ripping up a piece of paper, shredding a pencil, pulling someone's shoes from their closet and dragging them to her treasure rug in the living room, or running and playing-she goes all out. How many times do we only put in a little effort, or only do as much as necessary to just get by?

When I come home at night, she flies to the back door, jumping up and down, barking, and yipping until I empty my hands and pick her up for some hugs and kisses. How often to we do that for our loved ones when they come home?

When she goes outside, she looks all around, sniffs the air, stretches, and even looks up into the sky. How often do we take the time to really look at and soak in our surroundings? Or even enjoy our surroundings? Sometimes, I don't even notice my surroundings!!

I've learned a LOT from my sweet, fluffy little puppy. I hope I can remember to be more like her!!

Friday Finds...

I went a little further yesterday than I've gone in a while for sales, but I was able to map out 9 different sales from the first one, toward home. It was a fun day to see different areas, and to be out and about-even if it was cold and rainy. I didn't get much, but had a fun time.

The first sale I went to was a #2 sale at the same location. It was an estate sale for a former antiques dealer/hoarder and it was the second day (or really the 5th day). The amount of stuff was overwhelming. Most sales that I've been to don't even come close to this amount of stuff-even on the first day, and they certainly wouldn't have enough stuff to have a 5th or 6th day.

Everything I saw in the pictures at estatesales.net was still there. It was after 11 on the second day. So what does that tell you? Yep! The prices were high. They used painter's tape as their price tags. Blue was the color from the first sale a few weeks ago, and green was the color for this weekend's sale. Blue was 50% off, green was 25% off.

I picked up a few things, and was interested in a metal doll bed in the garage, but the price was higher than I wanted to pay. The son of the estate sale company's owner asked his dad if he would go down a couple more dollars for me,and he refused-even though it was still there from the first sale!

I picked up some really cool luggage at another sale. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the stickers! I've never bought luggage with stickers before. Even though I don't have any where to put them, I'm afraid I will have a hard time getting them to the booth!
